Helmwood Heights is a 1st-5th grade elementary school where our focus is on building positive relationships and educating the whole child.  We are sensitive to our students' varying needs and work intentionally to offer programs and support ranging from intervention to enrichment in math, reading, science, technology and the arts.  We also work hard to meet our students' social-emotional needs and tap into their interests and learning styles.

We have launched a "Culture of Learning" initiative in which we build students' character, leadership, service and responsibility and ownership of their own learning using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and a Growth Mindset approach.  Our students each have Growth and Leadership Binders which create a sort of "Scholar Scrapbook" of each individual student showcasing their goals, progress, character development, assessments, leadership, service and accomplishments.  These Growth and Leadership Binders are showcased by students in Student-Led Conferences in the fall and spring each school year.

We offer Physical Education, Music, Art, Library and STEM lab classes to each student every week.  Our special area teachers also offer enrichment opportunities in leadership, drama, keyboarding, graphic design, , art extensions, STLP and Vex Robotics.  We are also a Project Lead the Way school.

We have a very active, supportive, involved PTO that is involved in our school in some form or fashion on a weekly basis.  We have a very successful academic team, and FCS (Fellowship of Christian Students) club, D.A.R.E. program, Vex Robotics Team, Guys with Ties and Girls with Peals Mentorship Programs and other community organizations that provide programs and supports to enhance our curriculum.  Last but not least, we have an Etown Educational Foundation that provides programs, materials and resources to enhance our academic programs by offering grants to teachers exclusively in our district.

We are blessed in the area of technology as well and will be one-to-one with Chromebooks in the fall of 2020 thanks to our Elizabethtown Education Foundation and many community donors. Our classrooms are equipped with desktops, laptops, Ipads, Chromebooks, Ipods, active boards and document cameras. Our students participate in online programs such as Lexia, Think Central, Moby Max and Mystery Science just to name a few.

One of our trademarks is the highly professional teachers we have in our building that are passionate not only about the students they teach, but the high-quality instruction they deliver each day.  They are dedicated to what they do and have created a positive climate of strong teamwork and collaboration in a fun, loving, kid-centered atmosphere.

We are proud to be part of the Elizabethtown Independent School district which encompasses a strong tradition of excellence and deep-rooted Panther Pride!
