Helmwood Heights Elementary School is located on Cardinal Drive and serves students in Grades K-5. The school received the Flag of Excellence for four consecutive years and the Excellence in Education award, a national award presented to outstanding elementary schools in the United States.

INSTRUCTIONAL INFORMATION: The faculty and staff are committed to the well-being and the academic growth of each student. Readers' and Writers' Workshops are emphasized in all classrooms. SuccessMaker, an individualized computer-assisted math program, is used with all students from second through fifth grade. Students have access to a computer lab, an art gallery, and an outstanding library. A gifted and talented program is a supplement to the curriculum that enables participating students to develop skills in independent study, problem solving, and critical thinking. Helmwood has two Reading Coaches who assist kindergarten – second grade students who need additional personalized reading instruction. Reading Specialists are utilized at the third, fourth and fifth grade levels to insure that all students are reading on or above grade level. Each classroom is equipped with Interactive whiteboards and document cameras to engage students in 21st century learning. To further technology use by students, Helmwood also has two mobile laptop carts with 24 laptops on each and has provided a wireless network throughout the building.
